Amazon is a great resource all in its own. Amazon has done a great job of providing loads of information only available in selection aids in the years before the internet. Some items have comments from authors and publishers, and of course, there is the rating and reviewing system that is wonderful. It has a lot of other cool things: recommendations, tagging, widgets for webpages, estores, free shipping on orders over $25. Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't taken over the world. I remember seeing the owner of Amazon on Oprah many many years ago in its seemingly overnight successful infancy. I remember something he said that is too funny to be true. He said that their number one selling product was things to keep pigeons off of roofs
. Seriously. At least, I remember it going that way. I could've dreamed it, but I don't think so.
I've also added a "Reddit" (way down at the bottom on the right). I want something designed to share news links. Delicious is my default sharing app, but I want something more focused on news type stuff. If you know of an app with a great widget, let me know. Reddit isn't as user friendly as I would like.
